Low Tunnel Covers, Slitted or Perforated

Garden Row Covers or low tunnels are great to get a head start or extend your garden season. They are available with perforated or slitted covers. They will warm the soil temperature and offer frost protection. You can plant even up to 2 weeks earlier than usual. Also, you can extend your harvest season in the fall using these covers. These shelters are only intended to be left on your garden for a period of 3 – 4 weeks. For the best performance, use these along with the black plastic garden mulch for additional soil warming. Your hoops should be placed 4 – 6 feet apart. Pull your cover taught and bury the edges under the soil.  Perforated covers will have the highest heat retention while slitted covers will offer more ventilation. There is no need for added ventilation during the day. Remove these covers at least partially if your ambient air temperature is above 90 degrees. These covers will work in conjunction with drip irrigation systems.
